2007 - 2009 Salinity Program
Targetting Dryland Salinity, this New Generation Landcare Funded Project looks at rehabilitating areas of saline land through the use of native vegetation and / or perennial salt tolerant pastures in discharge sites (Living with Salt).
The YYLN Salinity Program has been running for over 12 months now and has led to some great changes over several propertiesfrom the Albert River Catchment right through to Seaspray.
Most farmers opted for a revegetation scheme to soak up excess ground water in efforts to lower the water table, while a few chose a mix of salt tolerant pastures and native vegetation.
The next 5 years will be telling so stay tuned for reports on the project's strengths and weaknesses.
