Merriman Creek Biodiversity Protection Program

This project is the brainchild of the Merriman Creek Landcare Group and seeks to rehabilitate the stretch of Merriman Creek between the south Gippsland Highway at Stratford to Seaspray on the 90 Mile Beach

Merriman Creek Biodiversity Protection Program

After 1st treatment

All Weeds of Significance and other invasive weeds have been treated along around 20kms of the riparian zone of the Merriman Creek between Stratford on the South Gippsand Hwy,  to Seaspray on the 90 Mile Beach.

A 3 stage photo point monitoring program has shown that significant reductions in weed infestations have been achieved and include: Willows, Blackberry, Gorse, Boxthorn and Blue Periwinkle.  Please click on the PDF to the left for the report.

Primary partners have included the West Gippsland CMA who have been responsble for the removal of Willows with Greening Australia also contributing to areas of high floristic value.

Best practice with regard to use of herbicides was adhered to with Garlon being used where a threat to the potable water supplies of the township of Seaspray was an issue.
